The private hospital Pays de Savoie located in Annemasse (Haute-Savoie) was inaugurated in April 2013.

This new building is designed to welcome over 26 000 patients per year.

A few figures:

  • A surface of 23 000m²
  • 250 beds
  • 18 operating rooms
  • 1 emergency service 24/7
  • 130 practitioners

To ensure an efficient ventilation of the building, over 40 air handling units were installed, each of them assuring an air flow between 2 000 and 20 000m3/h.

These equipments are the main source of the noise pollution, which, without a proper acoustic treatment, would generate a level of acoustic pressure LnAT of 78dB(A) in the operating rooms, i.e. the equivalent of the noise recorded at 1 meter of a street with heavy traffic passing through.

An acoustic engineering office was appointed by the client, to define the acoustic requirements and then control the solutions provided.

Requirements

The noise limitation in a health care facility is regulated by the 25 April 2003 order.

This text states that the standard acoustic level of pressure LnAT created by the functioning of the collective equipments of the building must not exceed the following values:

  • 40dB(A) : operating rooms and work rooms
  • 51 dB(A) : day time for the neighborhood
  • 46 dB(A) : night time for the neighborhood (see regulation)

The health care facility is also subject to important hygiene constraints regarding air quality. This aspect is decisive in the choice of acoustic equipments for they must not deteriorate the air quality.

F2A solution

In order to meet the acoustic levels required by the regulation, our acoustic experts led a dynamic acoustic study.
After identifying the most constraining rooms (see acoustic study), they determined the optimal solution enabling to reach the targeted objectives (40 dB(A)) through an efficient acoustic treatment : 130 sound attenuators placed throughout the ventilation network.
It took more than 2 weeks of study for the private hospital Pays de Savoie before reaching the targeted results.
To meet the hygiene requirements in a hospital, our acoustic splitters which compose the silencers, are specially designed for clean rooms. They are coated with an anti-defibration protection in fiber glass fabric so as to avoid any fiber rejection in the ventilation network

130

silencers SONIE R-BL composed of acoustic splitters SONIE BL were installed and enabled to reach the objectives set by the acoustic engineering office.
